Áine Phillips is based in the west of Ireland and has been making a show of herself exhibiting multi-media performance works internationally since the late 80’s. She has created work for diverse contexts; public art commissions, the street, club events and gallery/museum exhibitions. Her work has been shown across five continents, in places such as Kyoto Arts Centre, Ljubljana’s City of Women, Moving Image Gallery New York, Brisbane’s Judith Wright Cultural Centre and the Tate Britain. She has worked extensively as a curator of performance events in Ireland and the UK. Phillips is the Head of Sculpture at Burren College of Art (NUI Galway) and holds a doctorate in performance art from NCAD and has published “Performance Art in Ireland: A History (Intellect Books UK & Live Art Development Agency 2015).
Robin Deacon is a British artist, writer, filmmaker, and educator based in the USA. His interdisciplinary practice aims to explore performer presence and absence, the role of the artist as biographer, and journalistic approaches to arts practice. His writing and practice based research has explored histories of video documentation, as well as the practice and ethics of performance reenactment, most notably, through the work of the late US artist Stuart Sherman. His live and screen based work has been extensively presented in Europe, the US, and Asia, most recently at the The Spill Festival of Performance, The Barbican, London (2015), Tate Britain, London (2014) and at Performa, in association with the Whitney Museum, New York (2013). He is Associate Professor and Chair of Performance at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Roberto Sifuentes is an interdisciplinary performance artist and co-founder of the San Francisco based performance troupe La Pocha Nostra. He has performed and conducted workshops with La Pocha across the US, Canada, Europe and Latin America. Sifuentes has co-authored two books with Guillermo Gomez-Pena; most recently “Exercises for Rebel Artists: Radical Performance Pedagogy” Routledge 2011. As a performance pedagogue, he has been Artistic Director of the Trinity College/La MaMa Performing Arts Program NYC. Sifuentes is currently Associate Professor of Performance at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The HUB is a place for the IN>TIME festival to gather and reflect. It is a series of discussion panels, a place for writers and thinkers to deeply engage in the performance work in the festival, and for the artists to expand upon their work. It is another way for us to be present with one another and come together for a moment in performance.
